Sonos system on a Yacht? What?

Sonos system on a Yacht? What?

Sonos is known for being the leading wireless multi-room and home theater system. Having products ranging from home to outdoor use, Sonos has it all. However, what about on sea? Particularly, on yachts? Sonos isn’t a brand that advertises itself to be able to operate on sea. In fact, the people that they appeal to are more towards new homeowner couples. But, through this blog I will explain why Sonos is a sound system worth investing in, whether you are on land, sea, or if you happen to be hosting parties with family and friends.😊

How Sonos can appeal to those with Yachts

Although Sonos products are not primarily for marine activities, they have a lot to offer.

Firstly, Sonos has created their products to last for a very long time. Its products are durable and are built for longevity. Sonos has recently embarked on a new approach that uses fasteners rather than adhesives, making them easier to repair, refurbish, and recycle. This means that Sonos opted for less glue, more screws. 😁 In addition to physical longevity, Sonos has also designed its products to be able to do its own updates, on its software, with bug fixes and security patches. You know your software update that you are able to do on your iPhone? Well, it's the same thing on Sonos. However, instead of having to tap on the update button on your iPhone, Sonos does it automatically. Isn’t that great?

What’s more, Sonos products are thoughtfully designed from the inside out. They have one of the best-in-class acoustics and state of the art software. Not only has it been recognised by various product companies due to its convenience. But, it has also been mentioned by various tech reviewers as well, such as “What HIFI?” for its complete and immersive sound. Its sound has been expertly-tuned by Oscar- and grammy-winning producers, mixers and artists. You’ll hear more than just details but feel the emotion as well. For those who are looking for high-quality sound, Sonos is the way to go.

So where do I place it?

At this point you may be wondering, “So, if I were to get Sonos products, where should I install it”? I’m sure that most people’s aspiration is to own a yacht someday. Personally, if I were to own a yacht, I would definitely want to place it in a position that allows my product to bring my yacht’s audio system to a whole new level. So, I am likely to put it indoors. Likely my cabin for starters. Here's why.

Cabin's in Yachts

Firstly, it fits into your cabin’s aesthetic. Many cabins have a similar design to your own homes. Since Sonos was made to be sleek and compact so as to integrate smoothly into homes, it can do the same for your own cabin. Its elegant and modern design was made to blend in nicely with its surroundings; Making sure it does not take too much space and at the same time providing world class sound.

Secondly, it tunes itself like magic. Sonos' Trueplay tuning technology adapts the sound to your unique surroundings for a better listening experience that’s nothing short of luxurious. I won’t be too technical with it, but to put it in layman terms, Sonos products use this technology to have a feel of the unique acoustics of your room so content always sounds the way it should. So wherever you place your product, It is able to adjust itself, providing you with the best sound possible in your area.

Lastly, Sonos is the leading wireless multi-room system. With a WiFi connection, you can play different Sonos products in multiple rooms at the same time. As long as they are all connected to the internet, you are able to control all your products through the Sonos app on your phone. Imagine having the power of your entire sound system in the palm of your hand, clinical 😈.

Ok, I'm convinced, which products should I consider

So, I am assuming that if you have read this far, you are somewhat convinced? That's great cause the next part of this blog is pretty exciting to say the least. I will now be recommending some Sonos products that I feel are perfect for your cabin. Now, just a disclaimer, I am not an expert of these products, but I can objectively share based on my experience and theory of these products. Here are my recommendations.

Sonos Beam under the TV

Sonos Beam

Sonos Beam - Do you have a TV in your cabin? Well if you do, this soundbar is perfect for you. Sonos Beam has so many features that makes it a worthy investment. It blends seamlessly into your room. It is easy to set up, using just a HDMI cable that is included. But, really it's the sound that makes it so unique. Firstly, is its ability to produce crystal clear dialogue. You are able to turn on this feature called Speech Enhancement when watching TV. This amplifies voices so that you never miss a word which is perfect for movie fanatics. It also reduces the intensity of loud sounds while increasing the level of quieter sounds, making dialogue clearer without having to turn up the volume. Lastly, Sonos Beam is able to provide Dolby Atmos. In layman terms, what this means is that you are now able to experience planes as if they’re flying overhead and hear footsteps moving across the room. With its special technology, it is able to produce the impression of height which creates a truly immersive Dolby Atmos experience. Providing you sound that is truly next level.

Sonos Era 100 and Sonos Era 300 in living room

Sonos Era 300 (Left) Sonos Era 100 (Right)

Sonos Era - In my opinion, both the Era 300 and 100 have their perks. The Era 300 has the ability to provide the best audio and visual experience through the 7.2.4 configuration (if the numbers don’t make sense, read more here). However, depending on your cabin size, it may be too bulky. Moreover, it needs to be paired with another to feel its full effect. For the Era 100, it may not provide sound as good as the Era 300, but it is a speaker that is able to produce solid sound quality on its own AND, it's of portable size. Ultimately, based on the information and your cabin's needs, the decision to get an Independent, portable, good sounding Era 100 or a slightly bulky, crispy, lifelike sounding pair of Era 300’s is up to you. However, one good thing these Eras have in common is that they are both humidity resistant. This means that even in places of high humidity, which is very common out at sea, the Sonos Eras still operate to their best abilities. So you are able to use your Sonos Era’s anywhere, be it the bathroom or out of your cabins, and you’ll still receive clear, accurate vocals and detailed instruments articulated in both the speakers' left and right channels. Essentially being able to feel the emotional charge of a life performance.

Sonos Roam outdoors

Sonos Roam

Sonos Roam - Secondly, we have the Sonos Roam. Now I know we have been saying that Sonos products aren’t waterproof, but this one is 😁. Its IP67 rating not only makes it waterproof but dust proof as well. Furthermore, coupled with the fact that it's designed with shock absorbent materials, this means surviving a fall onto any type of surface - rocky, soft, rugged - is not an issue for it, making it super durable. Of course, please don’t intentionally drop it. On top of this, it is also small and portable. Weighing in at only 0.43kg, the Sonos Roam is an excellent speaker that has the versatility of letting you either leave it in your cabin or bringing it out, should you have any water activities outside of the yacht. Furthermore, through its Trueplay technology, it gives you a taste of how quality sound should sound like, providing you with the best sound experience wherever you are.

Sonos Move 2 in living room

Sonos Move 2

Sonos Move 2 - Lastly, we have our newest product recently launched only last year in September. The Sonos Move 2 is a complete upgrade from Sonos Move. This new model has twice the amount of playing time as compared to its predecessor - 24hrs as compared to the previous 11hrs- allowing you to play music for days. Just to put it in perspective, if you happen to play music for roughly about 4 hrs every day, you would essentially be able to continuously use the Sonos Move 2 for an entire week without having to charge it. That’s pretty insane. Similar to the Sonos Roam, it too has an IP rating. Although it has an IP56 rating, which means that it is not waterproof, But, it is water resistant. Water from heavy seas or projected by jets will not be able to enter the product and it is also built with shock absorbent material, so like the Sonos Roam, it is super durable as well. Moreover it also has regular software updates and replaceable battery that further extends the life of the Move 2. Like a life-long partner, expect it to be with you for life 🥰.
